Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people. Remember that the Lord will give you an inheritance as your reward, and that the Master you are serving is Christ” (Colossians 3:23-24, NLT).
Sometimes you feel as if your efforts are going unnoticed. Maybe you are working towards a promotion at your job, or perhaps you dread going to work because you feel unfulfilled. Maybe you are a college student pursuing a degree in your chosen field of study. Whatever work you do, the scripture above encourages you to do it sincerely and earnestly as if Jesus is your direct superior, not man. When you work as if you are working for Christ, no matter the type of work you do, you will begin to feel a sense of fulfillment. You will put your best foot forward and strive for excellence because Jesus is now your focal point and reason for working. When you change your perspective about who you are working for, your mentality changes about the work you do. I know this from personal experience. There have been times I’ve worked on something and felt overworked, unappreciated, overlooked, and unnoticed by man. It was not until a co-worker reminded me that my labor is done as a service unto the Lord and not man that my attitude about work begin to change.
In closing, I challenge you to change the way you view and perform your work. As a believer, work as though you are serving the Lord with your time, gifts, and abilities. You have a sure promise that God will reward you because you are serving Him and not man.
